Our Background
Buffalo Tree Glassworks is owned by Paul & Ginny Belcer. We are husband & wife team of Fused Glass Artists located in Arlington, Texas. We were first introduced to glass fusing glass at a charity art sale at a local university in 2014 and soon began our quest to learn this exciting art form. We continually seek to expand our skills and push the limits of our work.
Our Medium
We specialize fused glass (also known as kiln formed glass). The process involves fusing or shaping glass by heating it in a kiln. The glass is heated to various temperatures depending on the effects desired. Temperatures used typically range from 1100 to 1800 degree Fahrenheit.
There are numerous processes that are utilized in making kiln formed Art. The 3 key processes utilized are:
- Fusing - Heat is used to join glass together.
- Slumping or Draping - The glass is softened and begins to deform.
- Casting - This is a process in which glass melts and behaves like a liquid typically taking the shape of a mold.
There are many variations of each of these processes and often a piece will utilizes a combination of processes over multiple firings. Each firing can range from approximately 12 hours to 36 hours or more.
